Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences (IGIDS), in collaboration with Rotary Club of Kalamassery, organized a free dental check-up and awareness camp on January 19, 2025, at Rotary Karma Kendra, Kalamassery.The camp provided free screenings, consultations, and oral health awareness, reinforcing IGIDS’ commitment to community healthcare.

Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences (IGIDS) took part in the Oppam Super Specialty Medical Camp held on February 16, 2025, at Ryan International School, Kunnukara. Organized under the leadership of Hon. Minister P. Rajeev, the camp aimed to provide free medical consultations and treatments across multiple specialties.
With the participation of over 250 doctors and 300 healthcare professionals, the camp offered advanced screenings and treatments in 23 specialty departments, including cardiology, oncology, ophthalmology, dentistry, and audiology. IGIDS played a crucial role in dental screenings and treatment services, reinforcing its commitment to community health.
The camp also featured three mobile dental treatment units, ensuring that quality dental care was accessible to all attendees. As part of the ongoing mission of Oppam, multiple surgical procedures were approved for free treatment, further strengthening the initiative’s impact on public health.
IGIDS remains dedicated to community outreach and healthcare accessibility, actively participating in initiatives that make a difference in people’s lives.
The Department of Orthodontics and Academic Forum successfully organized a Continuing Dental Education (CDE) programme on “Ten Commandments of Smile Esthetics” on 18th February 2025 at the CDE Hall.
The session was led by Dr. Alen Eldho, who provided an in-depth understanding of smile esthetics, covering key principles and practical applications in modern dentistry. Participants engaged in insightful discussions, enhancing their knowledge of achieving the perfect smile through orthodontic and esthetic techniques.
The event was well-received, contributing to the academic growth of students and professionals alike. Moments from the session captured the enthusiasm and dedication of attendees in refining their expertise.
The Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences actively took part in the International OMFS Day celebrations held on 16th February 2025 at Durbar Hall Ground, Ernakulam. Organized by the State AOMSI, the event focused on promoting awareness about oral cancer detection and screening.
As part of the initiative, IGIDS students and interns participated in a Walkathon, emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis and prevention. The program also featured an engaging oral cancer awareness skit and a dance performance, creatively conveying the significance of timely intervention.
Through such initiatives, IGIDS continues its commitment to dental education, public health, and community outreach, ensuring that future dental professionals play a key role in combating oral cancer.
Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences successfully hosted an insightful session on “The Role of Dentists in Early Detection and Prevention of Oral Cancer” by Dr. Sudheesh Manoharan, Senior Consultant – Head & Neck Surgery at MVR Cancer Centre, Kozhikode. The session, held on 13th February 2025 at the CDE Hall, was a key highlight of the OMFS Day Celebrations organized by the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Sudheesh emphasized the critical role of dentists in identifying early signs of oral cancer and the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in patient care. Through real-life case studies and expert insights, he provided valuable knowledge on early detection techniques and preventive strategies, inspiring students and faculty alike.
The session concluded with the Prize Distribution Ceremony, where winners of various competitions conducted as part of OMFS Day were felicitated. The event reinforced IGIDS’ commitment to dental education, awareness, and proactive healthcare practices.

The Department of Prosthodontics at IGIDS successfully marked Prosthodontists’ Day with an enlightening session by Dr. Prisly Thomas, MDS Prosthodontics, Diplomate, American Board of Orofacial Pain, on the role of stabilization appliances in TMJ disorders and myofascial pain, along with its fabrication techniques. The session provided valuable insights into managing orofacial pain and prosthodontic rehabilitation. The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, recognizing and celebrating the talents of students and interns. On October 28, 2024, the Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences (IGIDS) held an impactful Anti-Ragging Awareness Program in the CDE Hall. The event featured prominent speakers, Dr. Aseem Hassali and Adv. Ahammed Thasleem, who addressed the detrimental effects of ragging and emphasized the significance of maintaining a safe and respectful campus environment. This session featured the esteemed Dr. Varsha Sam, who shared her expertise and cutting-edge insights into the latest techniques in endodontics. Organized by the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, this workshop aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of dental professionals. The Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences successfully hosted a lecture on An Overview of Intellectual Property Rights as part of the IGNITE MINDS Lecture Series on 18th October 2024. The event featured Dr. Jippu Jacob, Emeritus Professor and Coordinator of the IPR Cell at Amal Jyothi College of Engineering, who delivered an insightful session covering the fundamentals of intellectual property and its significance in academia and innovation. On 22nd October 2024, the Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences organized an impactful Continuing Dental Education (CDE) programme on Breast Cancer Awareness. Spearheaded by Dr. Shwetha Jose, the event was a collaboration between the Department of Pathology and the Academic Forum. It aimed to educate participants on the significance of early detection, prevention, and raising awareness about breast cancer. The session was well-received, leaving attendees more informed and motivated to contribute to the cause of breast cancer awareness.
On October 24, 2024, the Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences (IGIDS) successfully organized a TSH Screening Camp in collaboration with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Kothamangalam and the District Dialysis and Renal Care (DDRC). The event, which ran from 10:00 AM to 1:45 PM, attracted 226 beneficiaries who took advantage of this opportunity to assess their thyroid health. This initiative was made possible through the dedicated efforts of the NSS unit IGIDS and the Women’s Cell, highlighting our commitment to promoting health awareness in the community. We thank everyone involved for their hard work and participation in making this event a success!
On October 22, the Department of Public Health Dentistry at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences (IGIDS) organized a successful Dental Awareness Camp in association with the Sri Bhavani Foundation at Perumbavoor. As part of World Endodontic Day celebrations at IGIDS, a series of competitions were held on October 18th, 21st, and 22nd, showcasing the clinical skills of Third BDS, Final Year, and Intern students. Participants demonstrated their expertise in cavity preparation and restoration, with tasks ranging from amalgam restorations on typhodonts to composite restorations and access cavity preparations on natural teeth. The event highlighted the dedication and proficiency of our future dental professionals in endodontic procedures. Congratulations to all who participated!

On 15th October 2024, the Department of Anatomy at Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences hosted the ‘Anatomy an Art’ event in celebration of World Anatomy Day. This unique program combined science and creativity, inviting participants to express their knowledge of human anatomy through various artistic mediums, such as sketches, sculptures, and paintings. Dr. Shwetha Jose (MBBS MD Pathology) delivered an engaging talk on the event’s theme, “Measure your blood pressure accurately, control it, and live longer.” Organized by the Department of Physiology, IGIDS, the event brought together students, faculty, and community members to promote a healthier future through awareness and proactive health measures.

Organized by the Tobacco Cessation Centre, Rotaract Club of IGIDS, IDA Malanadu, Perumbavoor Municipality, and Rotary Club of Perumbavoor Central, the event drew a significant turnout from the local community. Participants benefited from free oral cancer screenings and vital health information, with a strong emphasis on the dangers of tobacco use and the importance of early detection. The Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences hosted a seminar titled “Unlocking Opportunities: Mastering CV Preparation and Facing Interviews” on 09/08/2023 from 8.30 to 09.30 am at the CDE Hall. The speaker for the event was Dr. R Venkitachalam, a 2007 Batch Alumnus, and the program was organized by the IGIDS Alumni Association.
Our Medical Camp held on 30th July 2023, organized by Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences (IGIDS) in association with IMA Kerala Region, IMA WDW Madhya Kerala, NSS Unit, Rotaract Club, IGIDS & Lions Club, Kothamangalam was a resounding success. With an impressive attendance of 100+, the event offered comprehensive health services to our community. From dental check-ups to eye examinations, blood tests to allergy screenings, Cancer Detection to Thyroid checkups, our dedicated team of healthcare professionals and volunteers provided valuable care and early detections, positively impacting the well-being of our participants. We extend our gratitude to our esteemed partners and look forward to more health-driven initiatives for a healthier community.
The Third Installation Ceremony of the Rotaract Club of IGIDS was held on 27th July 2023, marking a significant milestone in the club’s journey towards serving the community and promoting goodwill. The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, Rtn. Praveen K, a distinguished Webmaster & Trainer from Rotary District 3201, and Rtr. Aishwarya Balachandran, the respected Rotaract Kerala Regional Director.
The Interbatch Football Tournament held at Soccer Arena in Nellikkuzhi on 26th July 2023, organized by Vyuha College Union, IGIDS, was a thrilling sporting event that brought together students from different batches to showcase their football skills and competitive spirit. The tournament commenced with an electrifying atmosphere, as teams from various batches gathered with enthusiasm and determination to claim victory.
On 25th July 2023, the IGIDS hosted a significant Anti-Tobacco Awareness Programme, in collaboration with World No Tobacco Day 2023. This thoughtfully organized event was spearheaded by the Tobacco Cessation Cell of IGIDS at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Polytechnic and Engineering. An engaging and informative awareness talk was delivered by the esteemed Prof. Dr. Niveditha, Head of the Department, of Oral Pathology & Microbiology, Followed by a Screening Camp, wherein general oral screening was provided to all students. As a gesture of appreciation for their active participation in the program, an awareness poster along with a token of appreciation was given.
The Vyuha College Union, Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, organized a remarkable event on July 12, 2023. The event included an engaging Elocution Competition, where participants expressed their thoughts on “Women’s Empowerment and Education through the Eyes of Malala”. Additionally, a Collage Making Competition was held, allowing students to showcase their creativity and capture the essence of Malala’s remarkable achievements.
On 27th June, we came together to commemorate this milestone and honor the unwavering commitment of every member of our educational family. The joy and pride were palpable as we celebrated the recognition of our institution’s excellence in providing quality education. Our teachers, who tirelessly guide and inspire our students, and our non-teaching staff, who work diligently behind the scenes, have played an instrumental role in our success. This achievement reflects their relentless efforts, passion, and unwavering support.

The distinguished speaker for this occasion was Dr. Nitha Jose, BDS (IGIDS Alumna), Registered Dental Therapist, and Research Scholar- UK.
