Department Of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics
The Department of Orthodontics at Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences boasts of a clinical area of nearly 1000 sq.ft with state of the art equipment in the field of Orthodontics.
The Orthodontic OPD is adept at dealing with a wide variety of clinical cases through their diligent staff. During the last academic year (2011-12), the Orthodontic clinic has treated a whopping number of more than 700 patients ! All the necessary patient records and data are collected and stored separately in the zones specially earmarked for the same.
The year 2010-11 saw the entry of the first batch of 3rd B.D.S. students to the Orthodontic clinic. They were trained with basic clinical skills of diagnosis of simple cases. Due importance was given to practical training and improving their dexterity in fabrication of removal appliances. A series of lectures and seminars were conducted for the 3rd B.D.S. students so that they are not over burdened in the final year.
This academic year also saw the first batch of 2nd B.D.S. students appearing for the recently infused Pre-clinical Orthodontic exam into the B.D.S. curriculum. In this context, three internal assessment examinations were conducted during the course of the year. All the students put a spell-binding performance in the recently concluded University practical examinations.
